Henderson's First Week of December Runs on a 7 p.m. Clock

November 5, 2026

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, the Henderson Christmas Parade leaves First Baptist Church and heads down Main Street toward the four-way stop at Church Street. Santa, bands, floats and performance groups make up the line. The Chester County Courthouse lawn fills up around the "Henderson Red Carpet" performance area. At that same hour on the Freed-Hardeman University calendar, the Jazz Concert begins.

That overlap shows how the whole week works. Between Tuesday, December 1, and Friday, December 4, Henderson has five public evening events on its calendars, and four of them start at exactly 7 p.m. Plan the week one night at a time and pick one event per night.

The week at a glance

Date Event Start Where
Tue., Dec. 1 FHU Symphonic Concert 7 p.m. Draughon Center for Musical Arts, 158 East Main Street
Thu., Dec. 3 Henderson Christmas Parade 7 p.m. Main Street, First Baptist Church to Church Street
Thu., Dec. 3 FHU Jazz Concert 7 p.m. FHU campus
Fri., Dec. 4 FHU 62nd Benefit Dinner with Jay Leno Meals 5 p.m., program 7 p.m. Dryden Auditorium
Fri., Dec. 4 FHU Chamber Instrumental Ensembles 7 p.m. FHU campus
Sat., Dec. 12 A Chester County Christmas 6 p.m. Williams Auditorium

Two of these four nights have no conflict and two have one. The holiday events Henderson knows best, the parade and the Benefit Dinner, both fall on the nights with a conflict.

Tuesday is the only clear 7 o'clock

The week opens with the FHU Symphonic Concert on Tuesday, December 1, at 7 p.m. FHU's calendar lists it at the Draughon Center for Musical Arts, 158 East Main Street. Nothing else on the Chamber or FHU calendars is scheduled against it.

The address matters. The Draughon Center sits on East Main, the street the parade will use two nights later, and the Chamber office at 111 East Main is on the same stretch. Tuesday puts you downtown for a concert with nothing else competing for your evening. That is worth knowing, because Thursday and Friday both ask you to choose.

Thursday puts the parade and the Jazz Concert at the same hour

The parade's date isn't chosen fresh each year. The Henderson/Chester County Chamber of Commerce holds it on the first Thursday night of December at 7 p.m., and in 2026 that falls on December 3. A volunteer committee made up of the Chamber Board of Directors produces it, and community sponsors pay for it.

The Chamber names its own best viewing spot. It points spectators to the Chester County Courthouse lawn, where the "Henderson Red Carpet" performance area gives you the best chance to see every performance entry. The route runs from First Baptist Church down Main Street to the Church Street four-way stop, so the lawn sits along the stretch where the performance groups stop to play. If you go to the parade, plan around the lawn.

FHU's December 3 fine arts calendar lists the Jazz Concert at 7 p.m. that same night. With both events starting on the hour, you can't catch the opening of one and the end of the other. Families with a student in an FHU ensemble or a child marching in a parade group already have their answer. Everyone else picks one.

Groups that want to be in the parade rather than watch it face their own deadline. Entry is free, but every participant has to register in person at the Chamber office, 111 East Main Street. The Chamber's number is 731-989-5222.

Friday's 7 p.m. comes with a 5 p.m. start

Friday, December 4, is the biggest ticketed night of the week. Freed-Hardeman's 62nd Benefit Dinner brings Jay Leno to the newly renovated Dryden Auditorium, with the FHU Feud Game Show as special entertainment. The dinner raises scholarship money for FHU students.

The posted schedule has two parts:

  1. 5:00 p.m. Meals begin at all dinner locations. Each ticket carries an assigned meal time.
  2. 7:00 p.m. The program begins in Dryden Auditorium.

So the dinner, unlike the week's other events, takes the whole evening. It also starts two hours before everything else, so you can't fit it in around another event. At 7 p.m., FHU Chamber Instrumental Ensembles are also on the university's December 4 calendar. Friday has the same conflict as Thursday, but with more planning involved, because the dinner side needs a ticket bought in advance.

Tickets and sponsorships are sold through FHU's registration page. The levels people most often consider:

  • General Admission, $150: one ticket for the meal and program, with an assigned seat on the main floor
  • Silver Sponsorship, $600: two tickets, priority seating on the main floor
  • Gold Sponsorship, $1,200: four tickets, preferred seating on the main floor
  • Diamond Sponsorship, $3,000: four tickets, preferred seating, and a photo pass for two

Higher levels climb through Crystal, Platinum, Corporate and Underwriter to a $100,000 Naming Sponsor.

FHU says tickets are emailed in mid-November 2026, so buyers should be watching their inboxes about now. Will call is in the Brewer Sports Center lobby. Most guests dress business casual or business.

The headliner continues a series of nationally known names. FHU lists General Stanley McChrystal for 2025, Clint Black for 2024, Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms for 2023, and Kurt Warner for 2022. Leno, whom FHU describes as a late-night host, stand-up comedian, children's book author, voice-over artist and car builder, is the first comedian in that recent run.

December 12 starts an hour earlier, eight days later

After three busy evenings, two of them with conflicts, the next Chamber-listed holiday event comes eight days later and keeps a different schedule. A Chester County Christmas plays Williams Auditorium on Saturday, December 12, at 6 p.m. The Chamber describes it as a production show with local entertainers, live music and comedy, celebrating the season "Chester County Style."

Williams Auditorium is the same room that hosts the Henderson Hee Haw Hootenanny, on the campus of Chester County Middle School. It's the only event on this list with a non-7 p.m. start that isn't a dinner, and it's the only one on a Saturday. If you gave up the Jazz Concert for the parade, or the Chamber Instrumental Ensembles for Jay Leno, December 12 has no conflict at all.

Putting the week together

Since the times line up so closely, the choices mostly come down to who's in your group:

  1. If someone in your house performs at FHU, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday may all be concert nights. That leaves December 12 as your Chester County holiday show.
  2. If you have parade-age kids, stake out the Courthouse lawn by the Henderson Red Carpet area on Thursday, then use Tuesday's Symphonic Concert as your downtown music night.
  3. If you're going to the Benefit Dinner, check the meal time printed on your emailed ticket, since meals begin at 5 p.m. at more than one location, and leave Thursday open for the parade.
  4. If you want one holiday outing with the least planning, A Chester County Christmas at 6 p.m. on December 12 shares its slot with nothing on these calendars.

For the two campus concerts without a listed location, FHU's December 3 and December 4 fine arts pages carry the listings. For anything parade-related, the Chamber's signature events page and its office at 111 East Main Street are the sources.
